Top Ten Reasons the RV is a Scam

I hear starry-eyed dinar dreamers constantly repeating that the dinar can't be a scam because it's a real currency, and that they're just engaging in speculation like any other investment.  Okay, let's explore that for a minute.

People have speculated in real estate for hundreds of years.  It's never been considered a scam to sell real estate either as an investment or for business or personal use .  But let's suppose that you were sold a piece of property that was sitting on top of a landfill and the owner didn't inform you of that.  Would you feel that you had been duped?  Here's a law firm who handles fraud cases like this, and here's a story of a case where this actually occurred.  Or suppose that you bought at a certain price, only to find out that market prices in the area were lower than you were told.  Would you feel that you had been scammed?  Here's a story of a converted condo scam in Florida where condo prices were fraudulently inflated.  Or what if you were told that real estate prices would skyrocket because of a big company that was moving into the area?  Here's a story about that happening in the St. Louis area.  Sure, real estate acquisition is a legitimate thing.  But if you are misinformed about the facts concerning the investment you'd probably consider it a scam.

The problem with the dinar investment isn't the fact that the dinar isn't a legitimate currency.  It is, and you can use it in Iraq to buy things if vacationing in a dangerous hellhole is your idea of a good time.  You can't use it outside of Iraq though, and obviously the reason people are buying it is because of the belief that it could skyrocket in value and make them wealthy.  The problem is all of the lies that are told in order to convince people to buy it.  Here's my list of the top ten lies that are told about "The RV".  As you can see many of these lies overlap,  but they're all geared toward making people believe that the dinar will increase in value 100,000% or more and that is impossible.

  1. The dinar was devalued as a war strategy before the 2003 invasion, with the intent of bringing the value (presumably $3+) back after a new government is in place and things have stabilized.  Actually the dinar depreciated for nearly 20 years prior to 2003 due to Saddam Hussein's reckless leadership in the '80s and 90's.  This is supported by the CBI website and Shabibi's comments in Washington, D.C. in 2011 (5 minutes in).  All of the references to bringing the value of the dinar back were in the context of redenomination, which won't produce any profit for dinar speculators.
  2. Bush said that the war would pay for itself.  I've heard this claim for years but nobody has yet been able to provide one video, audio, or speech transcript where Bush said anything of the sort.  The reason is obvious - he never said it!  Some in the Bush administration talked about the fact that Iraq's oil revenues could help to pay for the cost of reconstruction, but that's a far cry from the idea that there was a pre-war plan to scoop up trillions of dinar and then raise its value to $1 or more to cover the cost of the war (nearly $1 trillion) and/or pay down the national debt..  In fact, Iraq is already contributing about $5 billion a year to the cost of reconstruction without "The RV".  (Watch this video of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at 92 minutes in.)
  3. The U.S. Treasury has trillions of dinar, in anticipation of the RV.  No they don't.  They only have enough to handle daily operations according to the UST and the DOJ.  In fact the DOJ was so sure of this fact that they charged Rudy Coenen (who pleaded guilty) and Brad Huebner with fraud for making that claim in their conference calls.  Read page 5 of the indictment.  Another claim that is often made that this is how Bush or Obama will pay down the debt or balance the budget.
  4. The CBI is reducing the money supply so that they can raise the value.  No they aren't.  All you have to do is look at the financials on the CBI website to see that the money supply is increasing, not decreasing.  When you point that out to these guys they insist that those numbers aren't accurate, and that the CBI is putting out bogus numbers to discourage speculators.  Really?  It's a bit late for that, don't you think?  According to Roger Dorman, owner of Dinar Daddy, there's an estimated 3 million Americans who own an average of 1.2 million dinar each (6-3-2011).  That's 3.6 trillion dinar in the US alone, and that was nearly three years ago, folks!  According to Marcus Curtis' research there's over 25 trillion dinar held by speculators outside of Iraq.  Trying to discourage speculation now would be like closing the barn door after the horses got out.  Besides, Iraq is on an IMF program rate which requires transparency, and they are audited by Ernst & Young to verify their numbers.
  5. The CBI is manipulating the rate, holding it down artificially in a dirty float.  Not true.  (See my post Dirty Float.)  They manage the exchange rate just like every other oil based economy in that region does, by raising or lowering the money supply according to the size of the foreign currency reserves backing their currency.  Like their neighbors Iraq's monetary policy is exchange rate stability.  The fact that dinar dealers don't inform their customers of this policy is akin to selling real estate that is built on a landfill without informing the buyer.  It's misrepresentation by omission.
  6. Executive Order 13303 gives speculators the right to invest in the dinar.  Supposedly Bush signed the order because his administration set up this big RV to reap a windfall for Americans and the nation's economy.  But EO13303 says nothing about the dinar or any other currency.  It was issued to protect the Development Fund for Iraq.  This also was one of the fraud charges against Rudy and Brad. Again, read page 5 of the indictment.
  7. The same thing happened with the German deutsche mark after WWII and the Kuwaiti dinar after Desert Storm, and people made millions from those revaluations.  This one is going to take some time, but it's important to establish some facts here because these lies led many people (myself included) to believe that this incredible increase in value was possible since it supposedly has happened before.  First of all let's define what a revaluation is.  It's an increase in the value of a pegged currency enacted by the central bank of a country.  (If they decrease the value it's referred to as a devaluation).  Revaluations are usually small adjustments of 1 or 2%, unless they are part of a crawling peg exchange rate regime like Iraq followed from November of 2006 to January of 2009 when they raised the value a total of 26% to bring the inflation rate down to a manageable level.  The largest revaluation in history is the ongoing (over 8 years now) revaluation of the Chinese renminbi (yuan) which was raised a total of 35% as a result of political pressure.  Somehow the dealers and gurus overlooked that inconvenient little fact.  When you understand that you can see that it's insane to believe that the CBI would raise the value of the IQD 100,000% or more.  The deutsche mark didn't even exist during WWII.  The currency of Germany that depreciated during the war was the reisch mark, and it was replaced by the deutsche mark in a redenomination.  The Kuwaiti dinar was replaced by the Saddam Iraqi dinar while they were occupied by Iraq.  Once the Iraqis were run out of Kuwait the Central Bank of Kuwait reinstated the Kuwaiti dinar as the country's currency at essentially the same value it had prior to the occupation.  There was no revaluation of either the deutsche mark or the Kuwaiti dinar, and nobody made millions in either situation.  Lies!
  8. The most you can lose is 20%.  Try 100%.  Banks have already quit handling the dinar, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to exchange through dinar dealers.  You can sell dinar on ebay but these days it's a buyer's market and there are hundreds of dinar listings to compete with.  Once Iraq redenominates there won't be any dinar buyers on ebay.  In a redenomination it's not unheard of for a country to do an in-country only exchange.  That's what Iraq did in 1993 and 2003.  If they do it again trillions of dinars will probably become worthless outside of Iraq in the hands of disillusioned speculators.
  9. The dinar is like a stock in Iraq, and as their economy grows your stock will go up in value.  Not even close.  (See my post Currency is Not Stock.)  Currency is a means of exchange for goods and services.  It's typically counterproductive for a currency's value to go up by more than a few %, and more often than not a country with a growing economy will prefer a depreciating currency valuation on the foreign exchange.  A stock is a share in the equity value of a company.  The purpose of issuing and owning stock is to benefit both the company and the shareholder as the stock's value increases, reflecting the profitability and growth of the company.  If a currency were to increase in value like stocks do it would result in deflation, because as the currency's value goes up prices for goods and services would go down.  When prices go down people curtail their spending habits, and that leads to a slowdown if not a collapse of the economy.  That's why economists will tell you that deflation is worse than inflation, because at least with inflation people usually keep spending and the economy keeps growing.
  10. Deleting the three zeros means removing the notes with three zeros from circulation in anticipation of the RV which will then require new lower denoms to be issued.  Deleting the zeros means redenomination and always has.  (See my post Deleting the Zeros.)  Sometimes they call it removing, lopping, chopping, slicing, cutting. or dropping zeros but all of these are another way of saying that a currency with added zeros because of a history of hyperinflation is going to be replaced by a more valuable currency with fewer zeros and a proportionately smaller money supply.  As much as the RV crowd is rooting for the enactment of currency reform in Iraq, the currency reform plan of the CBI is the last thing that any speculator should hope for.  A much better scenario would be for the CBI to scrap its plan and go to a crawling peg like they did from 2006 to 2009.  Nobody would get rich from an increase of 1% per month but at least the value would be going up.

I could have added several more.  The dinar isn't backed by oil.  Iraq isn't a producer of gold, nor are they a wealthy country.  Countries don't only redenominate when they have high inflation.  Shabibi never said give me a seated government and I'll revalue the dinar.  Those are all pumper lies.

Just like the real estate speculators bought because they thought that a big deal had been struck with Wal-Mart, dinar speculators are buying because of lies.  The dinar isn't a scam.  It's a currency.  Revaluation isn't a scam.  It's a legitimate monetary mechanism that is used from time to time as needed.  But nobody gets rich from revaluations, and the suggested possibility of getting rich is what drives dinar sales.  And THAT my friends, is the scam.

  1. Great post Sam. Maybe I can clarify for those new to the site:-

    1. The Dinar was worth less than 10:1 vs the USD even in 1991. It started devaluing not only 15 years before the 2003 war, but even before the 1991 First Gulf war before Saddam invaded Kuwait and whilst the USA supported him. It's not a "war strategy", just plain ordinary inflation.

    3. Not only does the USA not hold masses of Dinar neither does any other govt. IMF COFER (Currency composition of Official Foreign Exchange Reserves) statistics totally debunk this every single year:-
    http://www.imf.org/external/np/sta/cofer/eng/cofer.pdf

    4. "Reducing the money supply" is a lie that even without the plethora of CBI, IMF, World Bank statistics totally debunking it, can be debunked by common sense. If Iraq is reducing the money supply, then why does every Western MSB have a never ending supply of uncirculated Dinar fresh off the printing press...

Likewise, it's further debunked by the low 1220:1 market / street rate of the Dinar vs the 1166:1 peg:-
    http://www.cbi.iq/documents/CBI_FOREIGN_EXCHANGE_AUCTIONS.pdf

If there were far fewer Dinar in circulation than official (audited) figures report, that 1220:1 (which the CBI doesn't control) would be much stronger than it actually is - something like 600-800:1 if there were half the Dinar in circulation as guru's falsely claim.

    7. The Kuwait RV is a total lie

Likewise a, 20 year chart of KWD vs USD

And Germany redenominated by lopping 9 zeros (1bn Papiermark was exchanged for 1 Rentenmark - BOTH had the SAME value), then lopped 1 zero again at a later date (600 Reichsmark -> 60 Deutsche Mark). There was no "RV", and no-one got even 1% richer off of either process:-

    9. If that absurd guru lie were true (currency value is based on GDP size), then all of the larger economies would have the strongest and the smallest the weakest. Eg, the Kuwaiti Dinar would plummet in value, whilst the Japanese Yen would soar. Reality isn't even remotely like that. Pegged currency values like the Dinar are based on money supply and foreign exchange reserves. Iraq has around $80-90 billion Dollars to back over 80-90 trillion Dinar, hence the natural sub 1000:1 fair-market rate.

    10. This guru lie is total gibberish. The current "high" notes with 3 zeros (25,000 / 10,000 / 5,000 / 1,000 Dinar) are nothing more than old inflated low notes whilst the current "low" notes (500 / 250 / 50 Dinar) are nothing more than the equivalent of old Iraqi coins that were inflated out of existence. If and when Iraq eventually does delete 3 zeros, all that would happen is current 25,000 / 10,000 / 5,000 / 1,000 Dinar notes get turned back into 25 / 10 / 5 / 1 Dinar redenominated notes that they used to be, whilst all the current low 500 / 250 / 50 Dinar notes will get turned back into 500 / 250 / 50 fils coins that they used to be. A "fils" is the Iraqi equivalent of a "cent" (but there are 1,000 fils to the Dinar instead of 100 cents to the USD).

The whole "only some notes will be replaced" guru lie exists solely for scammers to sell more lower denom banknotes at higher premiums. Example:-

    The value of 1x 25k Dinar note = $21.44.

Here's what Treasury Vault are selling them for:-

    1m Dinar in 40x 25k notes
    = $1,010 = $25.25 per 25k note = 18% profit

    100k Dinar in 2,000x 50 notes = $950 (that's $9,500 per 1m) = equivalent of $237.50 per 25k worth of notes = 1007% profit!

That's why they pump this cr*p surrounding "lower denom notes". Anyone tempted to even believe in this stuff needs to stop and ask themselves : "What replaced all the Iraqi coins?..." and "If you went on vacation to Europe, wouldn't you find it more than a little odd if you were charged $76 for a €5 note (worth $6.94) from your favourite Internet cowboy outfit?...

  3. A few of my other favorite lies:

"The wealthy elites have already cashed their dinars at the contract rate!"

"The global currency reset is about to happen, and everything will change!"

"As soon as you get the #800 numbers, you can go to the bank!"

"Barack Obama can release the RV anytime he wants!"

  4. tell all that to POOPY< BGG< CHATTELS<MILLIONDAY< AND THIS NEW PUPPET OVER THERE THAT THE YREFER TO AS MR WHITE! EVENTUALLY THEIR WILL BE A SHEEPLE UPRISING AND I ALREADY BOUGHT MY SEAT AND POPCORN FOR THAT!!

5-4-14 Randy Koonce: Ok here is the Skinny...I cannot give you intel because it is very sensitive at the time...I can say our window of opportunity is from now until Tuesday. If it gets past Tuesday we will not see another window for 30 days. Continue to check the cbi website for the rate change. Comment

  6. Another question: If I were a Dinar investor, I would greatly desire an electronic position instead of physical notes. Once the mythical RV occurs, the exchange process would be much simpler and faster. Furthermore, any newly issued notes would not affect my position. What are the current restrictions of being able to open and maintain an Iraqi bank account as a foreigner. When taking into consideration the recent establishments of numerous well-respected banking conglomerates in Iraq, would it be that difficult?

    ReplyDelete

    1. To my knowledge the only bank in Iraq where a non-Iraqi can remotely establish an account is al-Warka, and they have had liquidity problems for the last three years. IMO the electronic dinar approach isn't any safer than the cash approach.

    2. Thanks Sam! Would have loved the opposite to be true... would have really tossed a wrench in the idiots' dreams.

    3. I can't remember which bank it was now, but a lot of morons were at one point trying to open Iraqi bank accounts with a zero balance (for their "future winnings"). When Iraqi's figured out what the scam was, they clamped down on 0 opening balances, it as it was just costing them money.

  8. If I bought 100000 stock in dinar then after the rd I would only have 100. That dosent make any sense. I think investors would simply leave Iraq and say screw u

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you bought 1,000 shares of a stock priced at 1,000 dinars ($.86) your investment would be worth $860. After the RD you would have 1,000 shares priced at 1 dinar ($.86) which is also worth $860. You wouldn't gain or lose value. It would simply be represented in a different way.

      Delete
    2. The proper stock analog for a currency redenomination is a reverse split, which are quite routine, though usually more like 50 to 1 not 1000 to 1. So if you have 1,000 shares worth $0.10 each (total $100), then after a 50 to 1 reverse split you would have 20 shares wroth $5.00 each worth the same $100 total.

  12. you know i actually sat and watched the stryker show the other day with TLAR on it. i never watch that buffoon stryker but decided to so i could see what TLAR looked like. i must say certainly not like the other lot of liars and frauds. he wasn't at all what i expected and doesn't look like a used car salesman like koonce and BGG. then i saw this post today which seems very bold but he seems very sure of himself. one thing about that guy is he didn't seem like the rest of the frauds.

    TLAR COMMENTARY ~

So here it is. Sometime in the next two months this will be over. The dinar will revalue and the truth will be known to all. I’m sorry if you missed the clues.

I would never do this and I apologize. I can’t say more but I was wrong on the value. It is more than delete the zeros, or 86 cents. I told my family only the detail. Those that know me know I have never said this. I have not put this out to my group nor will I, but I am sure its done. If I was not sure and had not accidently heard this today I would never put my ass on the line like this. Please do not confuse this with the kooks out there who say it is happening everyday… It is over. This could happen at anytime from this weekend through the next 60 days… It’s done. At the risk of marginalizing myself, It is done. I was a fool in trying to figure this out numerically. It is more than I thought. ~ TLAR

maybe he is now on dinar corps payroll of pumpers too but after reviewing many of his guys previous posts, this is by far the boldest.

  13. TLAR ~ I am not a guru as you know, I am only a student. I haven’t said anything like this ever and yes I believe what I heard today. 60 days or before and I’m sure. From this weekend on. I risk my reputation on this for what that’s worth. If I’m wrong I just finished myself off and I know it. What I heard today, while being sworn to secrecy compels me to share with you guys. I wish I could be more specific but my word is important to me. I don’t mean to be coy. We will all be surprised with what’s coming, especially me. I would never have believed it if it had not come from someone I know personally, has the credentials and is not a rumor monger or bull-shitter. I respect this person. If I am wrong, you know as well as I do, I just laid myself out. Truth is I could not stay quiet. You guys accepted me into your fold without hesitation and without condition or judgement. I am returning the favor. I love you guys. If I’m wrong, I will quit posting altogether. I didn’t say this to get noticed. ~ TLAR

    1. That's a popular line - "I'm not a guru". Breitling says he's not a guru, just an investor. Stryker says he's a researcher. Adam Montana says he's a businessman. They all claim that they're not one of the gurus, but they're all making money off of their followers either through ad revenues, membership fees, donations, or selling crap. Stryker once justifited marketing other things by saying he had to make a living. Otherwise he would have to go get a job. Horrors! Anyway, TLAR may truly believe what he is saying. I've said all along that some of these guys are just useful idiots. They lie to themselves and through their self-delusion they're unknowlingly promoting a scam. I can't tell you how many people I've seen over the years who were totally convinced that this was about to happen because of something that they heard. You can go back to Shotgun Suzy in 2006. She was supposedly in on some intel that it was about to pop. I wrote about her a while back. Once the much-touted much-anticipated RV failed to materialize she disappeared. I've actually gotten excited myself when hearing some guru claim that their well-connected source was saying it's happening. Been there, done that, got the dinar receipts to prove it. NOTHING! TLAR will be no different. They may indeed enact the currency reform July 1, but that's not an RV. It's a redenomination. I'd be happy to see it happen in a few weeks so that we can put this thing to bed. But no millionaire-generating RV will happen in the next two months or two years or two anything else. It's impossible.

    2. Let's put him on a countdown clock. This is the same ridiculous BS that shows up several time a year from someone. "Never before posted...first time...trusted, personal source...blah, blah, blah." Of course, none of these idiots explain how their sources developed their magical powers to change the laws of mathematics. This will always be the elephant in the room. Regardless of who says it, how they say and how many times they say it, a massive RV of the dinar is IMPOSSIBLE. There is nobody that can make two plus two equal five. Perhaps a countdown clock is a perfect way to embarrass this clown so, when the RV doesn't happen, he leaves and never comments on the dinar again.

  14. I don't know Sam. T-Liar I think would have by now shown up here or at BI to state his case and argue with us if he truly believed in the RV. The only 2 so far that I think may have actually believed a RV was real were SWFguy and Ennorste. Both of them attempted debate which failed miserably but just the attempt alone leads me to believe they at least stood behind their ridiculous claims. All the rest are gutless low life scum bag dinar pumpers who all know good and well that the RV is a myth. They base their income on it never happening.

"THE QUESTION IS CAN THEY DO IT BEFORE THE POLITICAL SITUATION CAN FIND SOME WAY TO STOP THE PROCESS? "

So politics can not stop it, unless politics stops it. Ok, well thats clear! Trying to be consistent when everything you say is a made up fantasy must be quite difficult.

    2. whats even funnier is several months back i called into one of bgg's MANY conference calls and asked him why he continually called an RV back in 2010 and 2011 when he was obviously lying and had no clue about anything. he disconnected the call immediately. it was hilarious. then i listed to what he said after i got hung up on and made up some BS about me not knowing what i was talking about etc.......the funny thing is he has no idea what he is talking about and never has. poopy is just the normal preacher that seems to have a problem telling the truth. not one thing that guy has every proclaimed has happened or close to happened. its always malikis fault or the 'ol "you know how Iraq is" crap....then of coruse its obamas fault a lot now too. i know the man is useless, but you cant blame him for everything!
he says one thing then a few minutes later is already spinning it like a top saying he didn't say this or didn't say that. what they do over there is plenty of psychological pumping. i just want wait for the revolt of the sheeple because it will happen......eventually! although it seems like its gone on forever, their is now ay this can be drug out that much longer..............i hope.....LOL
